Service Spotlight: Affordable Access to Amazon Web Services (AWS) via UC-Wide Enterprise Agreement

UC Davis faculty and staff can access Amazon Web Services (AWS) at significantly reduced rates, thanks to the latest UC-wide enterprise agreement. This initiative, brought to our campus by Information and Educational Technology (IET), opens a world of cloud computing resources to our campus community. AWS, a renowned cloud platform, provides numerous on-demand services from Amazon.com’s data centers, including computing resources, data storage, and much more. 

What’s New? 

The most recent UC-wide agreement with AWS increases the discounts available and extends these benefits through December 2027. This pay-as-you-go pricing model requires no upfront investment, allowing for flexible and cost-effective usage of AWS’s extensive service catalog, which boasts over 200 services.

Getting Started 

To leverage these AWS services, you’ll need an AggieCloud AWS account. AWS is a key component of the AggieCloud suite, offering a range of services including: 

  • Virtual servers (EC2) 
  • Cloud storage solutions (S3) 
  • Affordable data backup (Glacier) 
  • Database services, both relational (RDS) and non-relational (DynamoDB) 
  • High-performance computing with Hadoop (EMR) 
  • Email (SES) and push notification (SNS) services 
  • Advanced AI tools (Rekognition, Lex, Kendra) 

These services are easily manageable through a user-friendly interface, command-line tools, or advanced API and software tools.
